Speak Up: Preventing harm in the hospital
"True partnership will yield better outcomes for patients." – Karen Curtiss shares the experiences she had as a patient advocate for her father, Bill Aydt. While recovering from a successful lung transplant surgery, Bill fell in the hospital. This fall led to a devastating series of events that ultimately took Bill's life. Bill's doctors were resistant to collaborate with his family, despite Karen's attempts, spurring Karen to action. Karen is now dedicated to educating patients, families, and healthcare providers about the importance of open communication and collaboration in healthcare.
