The Sea Monster That Defied Zeus’ Thunder

The forbidden Greek myth of Typhon the monster who defeated Zeus and almost destroyed Olympus.
In this video we uncover the forbidden Greek myth of Typhon, the monstrous father of monsters who nearly destroyed Olympus and defeated Zeus, the king of the gods. Ancient sources like Hesiod and Nonnus describe Typhon as a terrifying creature with hundreds of serpent heads whose battle with Zeus shook the heavens and the earth.

According to the myth, Typhon stole Zeus’s thunderbolts, cut the tendons from his hands and feet, and imprisoned the king of the gods inside the Corycian Cave in Cilicia. For a brief moment in ancient mythology, Olympus had no ruler and the gods fled in terror.

But the story did not end there. Hermes and Cadmus helped restore Zeus’s power, leading to one of the most catastrophic battles in Greek mythology. In the end Zeus buried Typhon beneath Mount Etna, where ancient Greeks believed volcanic eruptions were the monster’s rage beneath the earth.

This dark myth reveals the hidden origins of many legendary monsters including Cerberus, the Hydra, Chimera, and the Sphinx — all said to be children of Typhon and Echidna.
