A vector is a quantity that has both magnitude and direction. Unlike scalars (which have only magnitude), vectors are used to represent quantities like:
Displacement
Velocity
Acceleration
Force
Key Features of a Vector:
Magnitude: The length or size of the vector.
Direction: The orientation of the vector in space.
Notation: Represented usually with an arrow (→) above a letter, like 𝐯, or in bold as v.
Examples:
A car moving 50 km to the east has a vector displacement.
A force of 10 N acting upward is a vector.
Mathematical Representation:
A vector in 2D space can be written as:
𝐯 = xi + yj
Where x and y are components along the x-axis and y-axis, respectively, and i and j are unit vectors.
