Chaos in Abuja: Sowore, others flee as police disperse protesters with gunshots, tear gas

Tension erupted in Abuja on Monday as security operatives fired gunshots and released tear gas to disperse protesters demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The demonstration, tagged #FreeNnamdiKanuNow, was led by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore. The protesters had gathered early in the morning with plans to march to Aso Rock Villa to press their demands for Kanu’s release.

However, the situation quickly turned chaotic when police and military personnel stormed the protest ground around 7 a.m., taking over the area.
Ned Nwoko breaks silence, blames Regina’s outburst on drug abuse

Senator Ned Nwoko has broken his silence following a viral video showing his wife, actress Regina Daniels, in distress, describing her recent actions as “drug-influenced” and “unprovoked carnage.”

In a lengthy post and a short video shared on his Instagram handle #princenednwoko on Sunday, Nwoko claimed the actress was battling drug and alcohol abuse, which he said was at the root of the crisis rocking their marriage.

“Regina was not always like this. Her current battle with drugs and alcohol abuse is the root of our problem.

“She must continue her rehabilitation programme, or I fear for her life and safety,” he wrote.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic 4-0 in the decisive 2026 World Cup qualification at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen’s hat-trick and second-half goal from substitute Frank Onyeka were enough to give Nigeria three points against Benin in its quest to qualify for the World Cup.

There were four changes from our win over Lesotho. Ndidi leads the team tonight. Simon makes his 85th appearance. Osimhen partners with Akor Adams up front.
