This video is a comparison and running shoe review of the Brooks Glycerin 19 and the New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 V11 cushion daily training running shoes. Both are considered to be neutral road shoes. They each cost $150 U.S. dollars. The Brooks Glycerin 19 is the heavier of the two shoes. They weight 10.1oz or 287g, while the New Balance 1080V11 weights 9.3oz or 264g and that's for a men's size 9, on my scales. The Brooks Glycerin 19 has a mesh upper with 3D print overlays that create a secure fit. The New Balance 1080V11 also has a synthetic mesh upper that feels like a knit material to me that is lightweight and breathable with a bootie like construction. The eyelet chains are adequate on both pairs of running shoes. The padding around the collar and heel tab on the Brooks Glycerin 19 is substantial while there is little to no padding around the collar and tab of the New Balance 1080V11. Yet they are comfortable on foot and I did not have any issues with this area of the shoes as long as I wore socks that were tall enough to come about the collar. The heel counter in the Brooks Glycerin 19 is very stout with lots stability while the New Balance 1080V11 has some structure that extends about midway up the counter that creates a nice heel pocket for your foot to sit in. I felt very secure and did not have any slippage either up or down or side to side in either pair of shoes. The midsole in the Brooks Glycerin 19 is made of their DNA Loft material which is their most highly cushioned foam and has a 31mm stack height in the heel and a 21mm stack height int he forefoot for a 10mm offset from heel to toe. While the New Balance 1080V11 is full length Fresh Foam X material. They have a stack height in the heel of 30mm and 22mm in the forefoot that creates a 8mm offset from your heel to toe. The shoe also has a good arch for support as well. Both, the DNA Loft and the Fresh Foam X provides for a highly cushioned run experience with plenty of energy return to help you move efficiently through your gait. There is plenty of rubber on the outsole which adds durability to both shoes. Overall the Brooks Glycerin 19 is heavier with more padding around the collar and heel tab with plenty of structure in the heel counter that creates a stable run experience. The New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 V11 is lighter and more nimble that is still running highly cushioned, and comfortable daily trainer that I think is a little quicker shoe to run in making it a better choice for workouts where you want to pick up the pace especially after logging lots of mile like in a progression run. Both are great daily trainers!
