LIVE: US Cancels Visas for South Sudanese Amid Diplomatic Row | Firstpost Africa |N18G

US President Donald Trump unveiled his much-anticipated "Liberation Day Tariffs" yesterday. The new reciprocal tariffs target countries across the world—big and small. Some of them are even uninhabited. However, at 50 percent, the highest tariff was imposed on Lesotho. Trump claims Lesotho imposes a 99 percent tariff on US goods. The reciprocal tariffs have jolted the nation. The government says it will urgently send a delegation to Washington to plead its case. s. A large portion of Lesotho’s GDP comes from exports—mainly textiles, including jeans. Diamond exports also make up a significant share. For years, Lesotho has enjoyed duty-free access to the US market under a trade deal called the African Growth and Opportunity Act, or AGOA. Its garment factories have, in fact, produced jeans for American brands like Levi’s and Wrangler. But now, the industry faces extinction. Watch this video for more details.
