Glass artist Michael Schunke Skull Goblet Pt. 2 - The Goblet & Lid

In part two of this video we see Michael Schunke and Josie Gluck of Vetro Vero Studios blowing the foot, stem and lid of the goblet, and assembling the goblet and lid into their final form. If you missed Part 1 of the video, it details the creation of the skull itself. Please feel free to watch it on my channel. The entire goblet was made from a custom batch of blue glass that Michael melted in his color furnace. If you'd like to see more examples of these and other goblets, please visit https://www.vetrovero.com/store/p71/Skull_and_Rose_Goblets.html

Wine goblets with fanciful stems were popular throughout Europe during the Renaissance and in the centuries following. They are often associated with Venetian glass. Here Michael has chosen to use a skull as the stem, and place a rose on the lid. The skull is a memento mori, that is a symbol that reminds us of the impermanence of life. In this case, it could also refer to the delicacy of blown glass. The rose blossom can serve to symbolize many concepts, such as love, hope and the possibility of new beginnings. Taken together, this goblet may serve to celebrate beauty and promise, while at the same time warning us of the fleeting nature of temporal pleasures.

We'll be posting more work from Michael, Josie and Vetro Vero Studios over the coming months. I hope you enjoy watching their artistry as much as I do. If you do appreciate this sort of video, please consider subscribing to my channel.

Thanks for watching.
