LATTEPAPPAS
Portrait of four young Swedish fathers, so-called ‘lattepappas’ who spend months at home and experience full-time parenting. This stay at home dad experience is in stark contrast with the parenting experience of the Dutch fathers who only get two days of parental paid leave after the birth of their child.
Being a full time father, how is parenting for others, and being a stay at home father are topics most fathers would like to know more about, so, especially today on Father's day, VPRO publishes this documentary.
Filmmaker Joep van Osch shows the ‘dad groups’ where Swedish fathers get together to share their insecurities about parenting, fatherhood and childbirth. What is a placenta, and what do you have to do with the umbilical cord as a father? What is it like to be a stay at home father full time?
We meet Peter, Arash, Dan and Anders, fourstay at home dads that will be full time dads for hundreds of days with their kids. What does the life of a lattepappa look like? How do they overcome the struggles and tiny dramas of fatherhood? Are they ever lonely?
The short documentary Lattepappas is a humorous and moving portrayal of Swedish society and the domestic life of its stay-at-home dads. A film about rough yet caring Vikings, which encourages you to reflect on a different approach to fatherhood.
