'We’re just asking for a fair chance': Scottish family fight deportation ruling
Adelaide electrician Mark Green, father of the Scottish family facing deportation, has asked for a “fair chance” to be able to stay in Australia and for Immigration Minister Andrew Giles to look at his family’s case.
Mr Green and his family were scheduled to be deported on Wednesday night despite being brought to the country to fill a skilled labour gap in 2012.
The family has defied orders by the Immigration Department to leave Australia, using the Nadesalingam ruling as a precedent to defend his family's residency status.
“All we need is to be put onto a different bridging visa, and then we can actually pay for our own permanent residence from there,” Mr Green told Sky News Australia.
“We’re not asking for handouts, we’re just asking for a fair chance.”
