NIRA officials say they will register people at Parish level
The National Identification Registration Authority has developed a new strategy to start registering people for National Identification Cards at the Parish or Ward level across the country. Brig. Steven Kwirigira, the Director of Operations at NIRA, who was in Mbarara to promote the mass registration of Ugandans starting in July, says this is aimed at ensuring that all eligible citizens can easily access the registration services to obtain a national identity card. Osborn Mushabe, the NIRA spokesperson, says that if as many people as possible can acquire IDs, criminality is likely to reduce.
