South Korea, Moon Jae-In refused the US request to join the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD), a strategic forum created in 2007 to contain China. In this video, we answer the following:
1) Why did South Korea refuse the US request to join the Quad?
2) Is South Korea thinking strategically given their trade relations with China?
3) How should S Korea’s decision be interpreted in Asia?
One thing is sure: The fact that this outcome did not materialize is due, on the one hand, to fears of harsh Chinese sanctions and, on the other hand, to Moon Jae-in’s populist image as an independent politician.
