How to Install an Electric Water Heater (Rheem Marathon) | Step-By-Step Walkthrough

Detailed Rheem Marathon water heater installation video. The installation process should be nearly identical for other electric water heaters, but there are a few things that area specific to the Marathon.

HOT AND COLD CONNECTION:
- Copper flex connectors
- 3/4” brass nipple
- Thread sealant
- Thread sealant (teflon) tape
- Wrench (ideally use two to tighten down connections)
- Ball valve (for cold connector, if one isn’t already installed)

ELECTRICAL:
- Voltage tester
- Needle nose pliers
- Non-metallic connector (optional, depending on your water heater)
- Screwdriver
- If house is not already wired for an electric water heater, you will need a dual pole circuit breaker and 10/2 orange wire to run wire from the breaker.

- Lead-free solder
- Lead-free flux
- Brush to apply flux:
- Pencil torch
- Propane for torch
- Inner deburring tool (more important)
- Outer deburring tool (less important)

- 3/4” elbow copper fitting
