Tropical Storm Eta expected to become a hurricane in the Caribbean

The next named storm of the already busy 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season is here as Tropical Storm Eta continues to strengthen in the central Caribbean.

The 65-mph storm is about 305 miles east north east of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, and is moving west across the Caribbean at 15 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center's latest advisory. Eta is forecast to become a hurricane by Monday.

Hurricane and tropical storm warnings have been issued for portions of the northeastern coasts of Nicaragua and Honduras ahead of the storm's possible impact. Eta's forecast track shows its center moving near the region's coastline early Tuesday.

With the track taking the storm toward Honduras and Nicaragua early next week, the storm will not have impacts on Tampa Bay, at this time.
