Theme of the Week #14 - Iron Man 3 (Main Theme)

The main theme for "Iron Man 3" was the first that Brian wrote. He would constantly try others, but continue going back to this one theme. For the first post-Avengers movie the creative team wanted to go in a different direction, musically.

"The vibe was to be more like Raiders of the Lost Ark and things like that where you have a really hum-able theme," said Brian, "and there was a change in Tony Stark in the sense that now there's so much more at stake in this post-Avengers world. Like we're under threat from not only domestic terror and that kind of thing, but there's aliens involved because of the Avengers and we have other worldly threats."

Thus, Iron Man's new theme was modified to be more orchestral, less electronic and extremely memorable. Much of the AC/DC callbacks were dropped in favor of portraying Stark as a changed man. He wasn't having a lot of "fun" in this movie and the music had to reflect his darker story arc and higher stakes.

The resulting melody is arguably the strongest of the Iron Man movies and the most memorable-- Something easily ties Stark back in with The Avengers.
