The Ragdoll Cat.

The Ragdoll is a cat breed with a semi-longhair color point coat and is famous for having distinctive blue eyes. Underneath that soft and silky coat, they boast a big muscular physique. They are best known for their docile and placid temperament, which makes them very affectionate by nature. The ragdoll breed was Initially established by Ann Baker, an American breeder in the early 1960s. That being said, the ragdoll is a fairly new breed. The word "Ragdoll" is derived from the natural urge of the breed to go limp and relaxed, whenever picked up.

Ragdolls are remarkable for falling into the arms of someone who carries them, even if they are cradled on their back. They love their people, always greeting them at the door. If given the chance, they will follow their owners all around the house. If they see a vacant lap, they will jump into that lap. The ragdoll is the type of breed that is so used to snuggling in bed, you'll easily fall in love with them. They are fast learners, most especially if you call them over with toys.

Female Ragdolls usually weigh 10 to 15 pounds, and some male ragdolls weigh more than 20 pounds.

Ragdoll cats are Ideal for families or single people as the Ragdoll is easy to care for. Their coat needs regular grooming but is not as high maintenance when compared with the Persian cat. Mainly because ragdoll cats don't have an undercoat. Their fur is quite smooth, almost having a silky texture to it.

Ragdolls are extremely clingy, if you are looking for the perfect lap cat, then look no further.
These cats thrive on human companionship. Unlike some other felines, they love being held. At most occasions, these cats often act like dogs.

People refer to Ragdolls as puppy cats, because they have similar behaviors. Ragdolls are very playful, and can even learn to fetch. They also have a dog-like loyalty towards their loved ones.

With that being said, they are great with kids too, but like any other animal, it's best to keep them supervised

Since ragdolls are one of the biggest cat breeds out there, They tend to eat a lot more. They are also quite vocal and will tell you when they want extra food.

Ragdoll cats are generally a healthy breed, but like all species, they are also susceptible to some health complications.

Both pedigreed cats and mixed breed cats have varying incidences of health problems, that may be genetic in nature. Problems that may affect the Ragdoll include the following:

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. A form of heart disease that is inherited in Ragdolls. A DNA-based test is recommended to identify cats that carry one of the mutations that cause the disease.

Increased risk for calcium oxalate. Also referred to as. bladder stones.

A predisposition to Feline Infectious Peritonitis.

It’s a good idea to keep the gentle Ragdoll as an indoor-only cat, mainly to protect him from attacks by other animals. Diseases spread by other cats may also pose a threat. Ragdolls who go outdoors also run the risk of being stolen, due to their friendly nature.
