Our First Impressions of Lisbon Portugal

After a week driving around Portugal, we finally made it to Lisbon. At a first glance, this city is much different than everything else we had seen around the country. In fact, Lisbon looked more like any other large city you can see around the world. But we were ready to find the hidden gems around Lisbon.

First of all, we stayed at what is most likely the coolest hotel in Lisbon. The Homeboat Company offers one and two bedroom floating room with a full kitchen and sundeck. If you are looking for a special place to stay, this is really it.

Other than that, we left my parents behind to relax this time and we rented a little blue Vespa to explore Lisbon on our own. This was the best decision EVER! For our first afternoon with the scooter, rode down to the Belem, the Lisbon Old Town. We visited the 4th best McDonald's restaurant in the world, had some pastel the Belem, had a look at the Belem Tower and simply enjoyed the views of this stunning area of Lisbon. That night ended up back at the marina for a delicious Portuguese style meal with my parents.

For our second day in Lisbon, there was one thing we had to do and that was the famous Tram 28. Lisbon has a large network of tram that goes around the city but in the old town, they style have one line that runs trams from the 1930's. They are yellow trams and they look amazing. With that being said, these tram are extremely popular and we were a bit short on time so we did the second best thing! We took our little Vespa scooter and followed the track around town.

Overall, an amazing couple of days in Portugal's capital BUT if you have to pick between Porto and Lisbon, we suggest you visit Porto.
