Murder Investigation Launched After Death on MSC Virtuosa Cruise Ship

Police have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 60-year-old man aboard the MSC Virtuosa cruise ship. The incident occurred on Saturday evening at 8:30 PM BST, shortly after the vessel departed Southampton for a two-night trip to Bruges, Belgium. A 57-year-old man from Exeter has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Gillooly from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary reassured the public that the incident appears to be isolated and expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the ship's crew during the investigation. He urged any crew members or passengers with information to come forward.

The MSC Virtuosa returned to Southampton at 6 AM on Monday, where it remains docked. In a statement, MSC Cruises confirmed that they contacted the relevant authorities and are fully cooperating with the investigation, while also providing support to those impacted by the incident.
