In 2008, an earlier version of the Austronesian Forum was established. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, it ceased operations later that year. After a decade of being stuck in limbo, the Forum was officially reactivated on August 1, 2018. Subsequently, an Executive Council Meeting was convened in the Republic of Palau on September 30, 2019. There, members came together to review policy implementation and discuss future collaboration opportunities.
2008年南島民族論壇常設組織設立，然而論壇組織因故於同年暫停運作。相隔十年後，本論壇於2018年8月1日重新啟動，並於2019年9月30日在帛琉共和國召開「2019年執行委員會議」，邀集各會員共同檢視工作推動情形，同時討論未來合作事項。

The 2019 Executive Council Meeting focused on the Six-Year Plan for the Austronesian Forum (2020–2025) as well as the five major strategies and sixteen undertakings outlined in the plan. The Headquarters for the new Austronesian Forum is located in the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center in the Republic of Palau. The office space is provided by the Queen of Palau, Bilung Gloria Gibbons Salii, free of charge.

本次執行委員會議中聚焦於「南島民族六年（2020至2025年）計畫」，讓會員了解計畫的5大策略、16項工作。為了落實各項工作，論壇總部已設於帛琉葛瑪榮文化中心，由帛琉女王Bilung Gloria Gibbons Salii無償提供空間作為總部辦公室。

While in Palau, the Council of Indigenous Peoples, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, American Institute in Taiwan (Taipei Office), and Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association co-hosted the 2019 GCTF International Austronesian Languages Revitalization Forum. The theme of the forum was “praxis and prospects for the revitalization of Austronesian languages.” Around 120 academics, officials, and representatives from 11 countries attended the forum to share their experiences and learn about best practice in language revitalization.
在帛琉的期間，原住民族委員會、外交部、美國在台協會台北辦事處以及日本台灣交流協會合辦「GCTF–2019南島語言國際論壇」，以「南島語言復振的實踐與展望」為主題與各國代表分享語言復振經驗，有來自11國的代表及專家學者約120人出席，彼此分享各國語言復振的經驗，並找出實踐的方法。
