Rocky Mountain horseback ride

Under the able guidance of wranglers Jessie, Rachael, and mom - we ventured into the land of the mountain lion, the bear and the marmot. ASCSA met for this Labor Day Weekend of outdoor things at the Adventure Unlimited Camps just outside Buena Vista, CO - about 125 miles SW of Denver. In the San Isabel National Forest.
From a dedicated horseman: "The Flank Cinch is put there for a reason....to keep the saddle from tipping! Flapping in the wind like that is asking for trouble, riding through wooded country a branch can get caught under it and up into the horses belly, going up a hill you blow a stirrup slide back and get a foot caught up in it. I´v seen a horse in fly season get his foot caught up under the cinch.
If you are not going to use the Flank Cinch for it´s proper use then leave it at home!!" • • Thanks for your concern, Mark Warnberg. Over the lunch break, the cinches were loosened. The wranglers came by after I was mounted and tightened the cinch. Steep trails - these lady chieftains were on top of their saddle-craft.
