Maria Farantouri (1947)는 아테네 출생의 가수, 정치가, 문화운동가이다. 음악과 사상, 사회활동 여러 면에서 미키스 테오도라키스의 영향을 받았다. 칠레 시안 파블로 네루다 (Pablo Neruda)의 ‘Canto General (모두의 노래)”에 미키스 테오도라키스와 공동작업하여 멜로디를 붙여 노래를 불렀고, 군사정권 시절 그와 함께 저항의 노래를 발표하였다. 1971년 오스트레일리아의 기타리스트 존 위리엄스 (John Williams)와 함께 페데리코 가르샤 로르카 (Federico Garcia Lorca, 스페인 시인)의 시 일곱편을 포함한 테오도라키스이의 노래와 기타 작품을 발표했다. 그녀의 목소리는 2옥타브이 낮은 콘트랄토로, 매스컴에서는 그녀를 ‘칼라스’, ‘존 바에즈’에 견주었으며, 가디언지는 그녀의 목소리를 ‘올림푸스 신들의 선물”이라고 칭송하였다.
