My experience of shared ownership

Shared ownership often gets a bad rap, but for me it worked out great.
I bought 50% share of my flat in 2007, just before the crash. Eek! I held onto my job luckily. I overpaid on the mortgage as much as I could and with a pay rise I was able to staircase to 100% ownership.
Tips for success with shared ownership is:
1. Overpay on the mortgage
2. Try to avoid buying a new home. Buy second hand. The share to buy website has loads of 'second hand' homes. Check out their website https://www.sharetobuy.com
3. Try and get a pay rise. More money helps but use it sensibly.
4. Get a room mate if you can afford a 2 bed home
