My Next Big Electronics Project
I ran across this unbuilt electronics kit, a Symmetric Sound Systems Audio Signal Restoration Unit, on eBay while looking for other things. It looked interesting, and some people on the web said it worked well at what it did, so I picked it up.
There's always a story behind stuff...
Sadly, it appears that Gabe Sellers III won't be able to watch this video or see his old kit completed, as he passed away on March 21st, 2011. (More here: http://www.cqc.org/w2zgb.htm)
Although I did not know him, Mr. Sellers was apparently really into the amateur radio hobby. He was in the military, worked for Bell Labs, was an electrical engineer and computer programmer. Hopefully he is in a better place now. Wherever you are now, sir, may you rest in peace.
The people I bought the kit from are also members of the Colorado QRP Club, so I guess they attended the estate sale. The Colorado QRP Club's official Youtube channel is here: http://www.youtube.com/w0cqc
2015 Belated Update from the Corrections, Amplifications and Clarifications department: I was contacted by the designer of the SSS kit. He is most definitely still alive (my wording in the video was poorly chosen and it probably should have been reshot) despite having retired from the electronics kit business and having sold off every example of the dynamic range expander kit in this video.
I never have gotten around to building these, or scanning the instructions for preservation purposes.
