Barrett MRAD Sniper Rifle | Tactical Rifleman

While many of you know that I was once in the military and still like guns; it goes a bit deeper than that. Throughout my 25 years of military service I attended many sniper courses and most of my career was spent either as a Sniper Cell Leader or as Team Sergeant of an Operational Detachment-Alpha designated as a Sniper detachment for the CIF company responsible for USCENTCOM. Most of my combat experience is behind a sniper rifle. I love the training. I live and breath the Sniper Mission. What is that? Sniper? It is the tactical use of a precision rifle; and I was very good at it. Hence the name... Tactical Rifleman.
So, I like Precision Rifles, from a tactical standpoint. I'm not real big on just ringing 10 inch white steel plates at 1,100 meters. Rather, I prefer to be able to hit a kill shot, day or night, on the radio assault countdown, under all adverse environmental conditions, out to 600 meters. That's why hunting season is an important part of my year.
That said, part of being a well rounded CIF Sniper meant being able to hold your own on all your other skills, such as pistol & carbine, explosive breaching, HALO, patrolling, to name but a few. So, that is why you see many (most) of our videos cover other subjects like pistol & carbine. These are key skills and are needed/desired by more viewers than sniper skills.
Every once in a while, I like to get out and stretch my long gun skills and play at extended ranges. Any monkey can pull the trigger, but the art of reading winds and calculating for changes in environmental conditions is an art that needs practice. So, every once in a while you all will have to put up with a precision rifle video.
Back in February, I was flown out to Arizona to film a couple episodes of Gunny Time the TV show. You can pull them up on the web and old reruns on the Outdoor Channel. I want to thank the great team at Barrett Firearms for lending me their MRAD rifle. The producers wanted me to film with another rifle, but Barrett had just been awarded the contract for the Advanced Sniper Rifle. That just makes for a much better show and it was something that I REALLY wanted to try out.
I talked in depth about the MRAD for 45 minutes, only to have the editors cut me back to three sentences. They were happy with it, Barrett was happy with it; everyone was happy with it. Fast forward a few months and I was just chomping at the bit to play with the MRAD some more. Once again, Barrett lent me this fine rifle so we at Tactical Rifleman could give you just a few more minutes of me doing "Verbal Diarrhea" about the great MRAD.
I hope you enjoy the video. I also hope you can sit through the whole Phantom Slow Motion ending for a special surprise. Strength & Honor, TR.
