Why I'm Not A Commercial Beekeeper Anymore
Professional beekeeping is really hard work – but I gave it up very reluctantly. And this video is about the reasons I had to.
Incidentally, varroa hasn’t been a problem at all, but foul-brood have also been a factor through the years. I suspect every hive in Ireland has it to some extent, it’s just that it manifests itself when the colony is struggling. And bees struggle when the weather’s bad.
Why don’t I feed sugar to the bees? Because bees eat honey and honey is a lot more complicated than just sugar. Replacing a hugely complicated and balanced food source with litres of glucose syrup, just so you can collect more honey, really isn’t the way I want to work with my bees.
The children’s beekeeping book isn’t it print at the moment, but if you’re interested the other one, about the way I keep my bees, then check out www.rosebeehives.com
Ok, here are some important website links. Please check them out..
