The ‘George to the Rescue’ team is grateful for the opportunity to showcase the impactful efforts of Tunnel to Towers, a foundation that honors the heroic sacrifice of first responders on 9/11, in our Season 14 premiere. First responders such as Tom Oelkers, who passed away from a World Trade Center-related illness and whose legacy we wanted to honor through a recent home renovation for his loving wife Erika and their three amazing daughters. Tom, who was proud to be an NYC firefighter, spent most of his career at Ladder 44 in the Bronx and enjoyed giving back to his community and helping others; and his dedicated public service — first with the NYPD, then the FDNY — reflected that.
