two tier architecture
Hello everyone
In this video, we explain Two-Tier Architecture, a step up from one-tier systems, and how the client-server model works in real applications.
What is Two-Tier Architecture?
Also called client-server architecture, a two-tier system separates:
1. Client (Presentation Layer) → Where users interact
2. Server (Data Layer / Database) → Where data is stored and processed
This separation makes apps more scalable than a one-tier system.
How it Works:
1. Client sends a request (e.g., login or fetch data)
2. Server receives and processes the request
3. Server interacts with the database
4. Response is sent back to the client
5. Client displays the result
Examples of Two-Tier Architecture:
- Desktop apps connecting to a database (e.g., MS Access + backend DB)
- Simple web apps with a frontend and backend
- Small business applications
Key Points Covered:
✔ Separates client and server responsibilities
✔ Easier to manage than one-tier systems
✔ Supports multiple clients connecting to the same server
✔ Limited scalability for very large applications
Why it Matters:
Understanding two-tier architecture is important before moving to three-tier or N-tier systems.
It forms the foundation for learning modern distributed and scalable applications.
