ICE has abandoned plans for a new detention facility in Romulus, Michigan

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel released a statement today saying ICE will sell a warehouse on Cogswell Street purchased in February of this year

Nessel, alongside the City of Romulus, sued ICE and DHS in March and sought to prevent conversion of the warehouse into an immigration detention center

Nessel stated today that her office will keep the lawsuit active “until we have a signed agreement committing that DHS and ICE will never use this Romulus warehouse as a detention center and will list the property for sale”
