Pet owner tips: How to curtail guarding of toys, food

Dogs can get possessive sometimes, especially when it comes to their favorite toy or food. Dog trainer Amy Weeks offers some tips to curb ‘guarding.’

Those tips include: Always make a trade; teach a formal “drop it” and “leave it” cue; give dogs safe place to be left alone when eating or with favorite items; toss away any items that may present an ongoing problem.
