2021 Squier FSR Classic Vibe ‘60s Custom Esquire in Lake Placid Blue | Review & Demo
This is the 2021 Squier FSR Classic Vibe Custom 60s Esquire in Lake Placid Blue!
I’ve had my eye out for an Esquire for years now, but just never found one in the budget, colorway and style for me – until now. When Squier unveiled these 2021 FSR (Fender Special Run) Classic Vibe ‘60s Custom models, with Lake Placid Blue (and laurel fingerboard) as an option, I just had to bite. I’d have preferred rosewood for the board, but hey, these days that’s not an option like it would’ve been in the past.

The rest of the specs on the guitar look rather impressive: a nato body – in that wonderful LPB finish, beautifully bound front and back in aged white, set off with a parchment pickguard – and vintage tint maple neck, a bone nut, 9.5” fingerboard radius and 21 narrow tall frets, and Squier hardware.
And you might only have the one pickup – a Fender-designed alnico single coil – but the Esquire is a deceptively versatile beast... as you're about to hear! In this video, I try the Esquire across a bunch of my favorite musical genres: indie, country, classic rock, alternative rock, and a bit of heavier stuff too. I really wanted to see if the Esquire could handle it all, and I think the results will surprise you.

I ran the Esquire into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head, using my Revv G3 distortion pedal for the heavy drive sounds. The amp went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done.
