305 DADE COUNTY ~ MIAMI ~ FLORIDA ~ Driving Around residential areas, of this Miami-Dade Subdivision on the NW side. After many decades of population loss this section of Miami is starting to grow again. Originally a white area in the 1920's, around the 40's and 60's African Americans and Blacks started moving into this area. The area was predominantly professional African Americans until the 1968 riots, from than onward the community had a decline. The Latino population is growing in this area, and perhaps could once again change the neighborhood. Many African American communities in NW Miami are slowly becoming Hispanic. Poverty statistics in this section of Dade county are extremely grim with 55% of those under 18 living below the poverty line.
