Dr. Saleh Fares Al-Ali from the Emergency Preparedness and Response Center; Department of Health - Abu Dhabi presents "Government-Academia Partnership: Taking Disaster Medicine to the Next Level" at the WADEM congress in May 2023.

Government-academia partnership in Disaster Medicine and Disaster Management involves the partnership between government agencies and academic institutions to improve preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in the event of disasters. This collaboration allows for the exchange of knowledge, skills, and resources, as well as the development of innovative solutions to complex problems in disaster medicine and disaster management. Ultimately, this partnership aims to create a more efficient and effective system of disaster response that is informed by the latest research and best practices in the field.

Dr. Fares will highlight the collaboration between the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DOH) and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians fellowship program as an excellent example of government-academia collaboration in disaster medicine and management through the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Center of Disaster Medicine in 2022.

The Center aims to upskill healthcare professionals in Abu Dhabi and the region to develop and implement effective strategies to prevent and mitigate the impact of disasters, as well as to enhance the resilience of affected communities.
