The breakthrough uses a thin nickel foil woven through the cell's interior. When current flows through it, the battery self-heats in under 30 seconds. The genius part is timing: the system cools everything back to room temperature immediately after charging finishes. The dangerous heat only exists for minutes, never long enough for lithium plating to form. The real challenge was positioning that foil within half a millimeter of the optimal location. After 2,500 test cycles, the team proved this EV battery technology survives 700,000 miles before meaningful degradation.
