Police Chase High speed chase in Lisle ends with fatal crash

A 30-year-old man was killed early Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Lisle after leading police on a high-speed chase, authorities said.

The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at Edward Hospital in Naperville. A 29-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the air bags deployed.

Lisle police said the pursuit began at 1:13 a.m. when an officer attempted to stop a 2020 Honda Accord for speeding on the 1700 block of Ogden Avenue. After the vehicle pulled to the side of the road and the officer approached it, police said, the car sped west on Ogden.

The speeding car was pursued by two Lisle police officers in separate vehicles, according to a news release. It then traveled north onto Naper Boulevard.

Less than 5 minutes later, Lisle officers located the car on the entrance ramp to eastbound I-88 and determined it had been involved in a single-vehicle crash.

Police said the vehicle has been reported stolen in Chicago on Dec. 16. Lisle Deputy Police Chief Kevin Licko said the deceased driver was listed as a suspect in the Chicago police report.

The identification of the driver is pending after notification of next of kin. No charges have been filed so far against the passenger, who also has not yet been identified.

The Lisle Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the DuPage MERIT Public Integrity Team and Major Crash Reconstruction Team. Still to be determined are the cause of the crash, the vehicle's speed and if the occupants were wearing seat belts.
