What Happened To The Moderates?

People used to believe both sides had things right, but neither had it complete. Why is it so hard to find these people anymore? And what can we do to solve this problem?
Compromise involves both sides of an issue sacrificing some of their more extreme beliefs so that they can combine the good parts of both solutions, creating a solution better than either alone.
