The Historic Nuart Theatre

Landmark Theatres reopens the Nuart on October 21, 2022 after renovation. The 1930 theatre has been operated by Landmark Theatres since 1975. It was known as L.A.'s finest art house even prior to that and served the Sawtelle neighborhood with Japanese language programming intermingled with contemporary international films that have since become arthouse staples. A trio of fabled midnight movie cult films that launched in L.A. at the Nuart, are John Waters' PINK FLAMINGOS and David Lynch's ERASERHEAD. THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW made the Nuart its permanent Los Angeles home in 1986 and shadow cast Sins O' the Flesh began performing there in 1987.
