‘China is coming for us hard’: Foreign interference plot revealed
Sky News host Paul Murray says although the ABC “wants to tell us” the culprit behind a thwarted election inference plot was Russia, China is coming “for us hard”.
ASIO boss Mike Burgess revealed on Wednesday night a “wealthy individual with direct and deep connections to a foreign government” had sought to shape the “political scene to benefit the foreign power”.
“They are trying to influence the foreign media that 1.2 million Australians of Chinese descent have access to,” Mr Murray said.
“You’ve seen what they’ve done to the Prime Minister’s account on Chinese social media.
“And we know that they are trying to cripple our industries by the day.
“There’s a lot of noise about what’s the most important thing in Australia right now – this was the biggest story of the day.”
