The Diamond beach, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, Iceland.
Without doubt one of the highlights (of many) in Iceland.
The diamond beach is made up of the broken off pieces of the near by Jökulsárlón glacier which have drifted from the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon out to sea but are then broken up and drift onto the black sand beach.
The 'diamonds' in the title refers to the many small pieces of totally clear ice which sit on the beach. Whilst many pieces are full of bubbles and so quite opaque, many more are completely transparent. In addition, many have melted in intricate ways to form not just lumps of ice but incredible works of art. If only you could bring one home...
