Channel Islands Twin Pin Surfboard Review

We've been waiting patiently for this board and we are now super stoked to bring you the Channel Islands Twin Pin surfboard, the footage of Mikey February has driven the hype but we can promise you it looks and surfs as well as everyone had hoped. Mikey and Britt Merrick got together to create a board that had all the fun elements of a twin fin but also enough hold and projection to stop you needing a trailer fin. The wave range is quite frankly mad, the Twin Pin will go in anything from waist to well overhead and will be fine with wind and chop.

The board itself is pretty flat from the nose and through the mid section and then rolls into a little vee out of the tail. This keeps the board responsive and loose enough to push around without making it feel too skatey. The rails are a little paired down to give it that extra bit of performance which is needed given the width of the board. This is such a fun board to surf.

We reckon pretty much anyone could ride this board from higher level beginner right through to a pro, the guidance on sizing from CI is very varied but having had the demo we'd say you're going to up on your standard shortboard by a few litres and couple of inches but in this style of board this is all less relevant, go with your heart! A lot of people will find this board perfect as their daily driver, its wave range and ability to still fly in varied conditions make it a perfect option for at home and travelling.

We love the minimalist branding and particularly the retro logo running down the stringer which was last seen adorning Al's boards back in the early 70's. The CI Mid will come standard with a classy resin tint and standard glassing 4oz + 4oz decks and 4oz bottoms.

This stunner of a surfboard is going to have a very broad fan base, from the frothing newbie stepping off their first board to the seasoned vet looking to style and carve some lines at his local break. The choice of fins is pretty straightforward, Britt has designed a bespoke CI fin to go with the board but in reality any slightly keely upright twin will work, we particularly like the Son of Cobra Twin and the Machado keels.

As a premier Channel Islands stockist, we pride ourselves on giving what we think is good solid advice without any of the over-eager sales driven BS often encountered by our customers elsewhere.

We're happy to consider taking your old or unwanted board as a trade in against a surfboard, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to info@boardshop.co.uk or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250
