Building an eco-friendly housing development - construction using structural insulated panels (SIPS)
Andrew McMillan introduces Church Farm, an eco-friendly house construction project in North
Yorkshire that is using structural insulated panels (SIPS) to create 7 environmentally friendly houses. This film introduces the eco-friendly housing project site, asks ‘What are SIPS?’, ‘What are the benefits of building with SIPS?’ and ‘How to build a house with SIPS?’
The benefits of building a house with SIPS are that it’s a lot quicker building with SIPS panels and you get a lot more environmentally friendly home design and a much more energy efficient home design.
In this first film Andrew introduces SIPS@Clays as the contractor he and his architect will be working with for the SIPS design and manufacture. Andrew also introduces several other elements of the Church Farm development that make it unique, including standing seam rooves and concealed gutters and downpipes; exposed aggregate for walkways and patios; and formed concrete basements and dwarf walls.
