This New Class 8 Electric Truck Was Built to Rival the Tesla Semi

A new Class 8 electric semi from Horizon Motor is positioning itself as a practical challenger to the Tesla Semi. At ACT Expo 2026, Horizon Motor’s new battery-electric truck made its official production debut. Sean Jones, CEO of Horizon Motor, says their truck was designed to address common criticisms of the Tesla Semi. As a result, the Horizon Motor Class 8 Semi Truck features a traditional two-seat cab layout and a more flexible charging system.

For the Class 8 segment, infrastructure and range remain the biggest hurdles to widespread adoption. While some major OEMs, such as Tesla, rely on less common MCS charging ports, Horizon Motor’s truck uses a dual-plug CCS1 system that makes it easier to utilize standard public charging, allowing the truck to achieve a full charge in less than an hour.

The vehicle currently features a 350-mile range and a 29,000-pound curb weight. However, a future shift to solid-state batteries via a recent one-gigawatt agreement could allow Horizon Motor to eventually cut battery weight in half or double the truck's overall range.

The truck in this video is already in the hands of a fleet customer in California, with standard order-to-delivery timelines expected to sit between 120 and 150 days.
