1978 Honda ATC 90 Full Restoration - Part 6
Welcome to episode 6. This episode focuses mainly on the repair and fabrication of panels, painting and zinc plating.
So first thing is first and that was to sit the fully rebuild engine somewhere safe until its need. Once safely stowed i set out all the panels i will be working on this episode.
As you saw in the first shots the brake cover is totally rusted out and cant be saved economically so i had to order a replacement from america same story with the chain cover. the rest of the panels then got a session in the sand blaster to remove all the old paint and rust.
Once back to bare metal it turned out the chain back plate was too far gone aswell so that will need replaced too. Everything else i will be able to give a new lease of life. The main panel i choose to work on was the brake back plate.
As you can see in the video its a simple process of marking out now sheet metal bending to shape and welding it in place, simple enough but does take quite a bit of time to get it right.
Once the sheet metal was repaired it was cleaned and set up in the booth for etch priming and high build priming. Once the primers cured i wet flat the primer to remove any defects that may be present and then give all the parts a nice new shiny coat of gloss black.
while that was curing i set about cleaning, de-rusting and re- plating all of the old fixings, brackets and pivots. This process is explained in the video and as you can see the parts come out as good as new.
I then painted the brake drum with high temp black to protect it from rusting again and that was that for this episode.
All i have to do now is wait on parts arriving and we can start the re-assembly process.
I hope you will all join me again soon and I also hope you enjoyed the video
Stay Tuned and i will see you all again soon.
