TAPIF: Easy Lesson Plannings Tips & Tricks
Hey guys, here's some tips on how I plan lessons. My teaching experience in France was with lycée students, but I also have lots of ESL and FLE experience teaching all ages online.
If you have other tips not mentioned in this video, PLEASE share in the comments! Especially if you're getting a degree in teaching.
❀ Pro Tips :
1. Don't over-think it. It's not worth making extremely detailed lesson plans. We're assistants, NOT teachers. And things can go wrong - like technology not working.
2. Plan a few 5-10 minute warmups / coolers that you can use every class.
3. With older students, share tips to help them learn at home.
4. Gauge overall student level during the first couple of weeks. Plan lessons based on overall class performance. Not all students will be where they are expected to be on the learning curve. Some may be very advanced in English, some may be way behind.
5. Ask teachers what they want you to teach. Sometimes, teachers may want us to plan our lessons around a specific topic. We are meant to be assistants, after all, so it makes sense they may want us to do this.
6. Consider whether a TEFL certification is right for you. TEFL is a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification. It can be great for people like me who had very little teaching experience going into the TAPIF. And it doesn't have to break the bank. Shop around for good deals near you!
7. Ask students what they want to learn! If your teachers give you some flexibility in choosing what you teach, you can ask your students what they want to learn about American culture and politics. The older the students are, the more specific topics they may want to know.
