“I think that cars today are almost the exact equivalent of the great Gothic cathedrals: I mean the supreme creation of an era, conceived with passion by unknown artists, and consumed in image if not in usage by a whole population which appropriates them as a purely magical object.” These are the words of the French philosopher Roland Barthes on the Citroën DS, from his 1957 book Mythologies.
The Citroën DS is a legendary car. The product of a conscious decision, of passion and conviction. Because there is no better, more aesthetically pleasing or more technically interesting car. At the Dutch Citroën ID/DS Club, we understand this.
A car that transcends its function is a rare thing. Its powerful appeal connects a diverse group of people. This is reflected in our membership, which includes people of all ages and from all walks of life. But the days in which people joined clubs en masse are over. The interest in industrial design objects like the Citroën DS must be kept up.
The Citroën ID/DS Club Netherlands has therefore launched a major campaign in which video and printed media come together to reach a new young target group; a group who share a passion for an iconic car: the Citroën DS.
