Left Handed Waxer

Are you left handed and interested in waxing? Did you know that left handed waxers have the posibility to be the best waxers? I'll explain why.

Studies show that left handed people take up about 10% of our population. If you’re left handed, you are prone to have the ability to use both hands, relatively equally.

I grew up left handed and it definitely had its struggles, and still does! For example, scissors are primarily made for right handed people, writing with a pencil will cause your hand to get covered in lead (this is a particular kind of torture), the pen at the bank and on credit card terminals always gets in the way since it’s attached to the right side, can openers, and those desks with the chair attached are definitely not made for leff handed people! I could ceaselessly explain the struggles of being left handed.

Growing up, I was always able to do things more easily with both of my hands than my friends could. For instance, I could easily paint all my fingernails (right and left hand). If one of my right handed friends tried to paint their right hand with their left hand, it always turned out a disaster.

When I decided I wanted to be a waxer, my trainer had a difficult time training me since she was right handed. However, one of the other trainers told me to use that to my advantage and learn how to wax with both hands. So smart! While my left hand has always been dominant, I actually learned that I could (in some cases) wax even better with my right hand.

After that, I practiced laying strips with both of my hands until I felt fully comfortable being able to wax with my left hand and right hand.

How is this beneficial? For starters, it helped me significantly reduce my chance of carpal tunnel in my hands and wrists because I was equally using both of my hands during each waxing appointment. It also allowed me to very easily be able to stay waxing on one side of the table and not have to switch to the other side when I had to lay certain wax strips.

At European Wax Center, the wax rooms aren’t set up the same way. Sometimes the table would make you stand on the right side of the client, and sometimes the table would make you stand on the left side of the client. I remember it frustrating the other waxers but for me, easy peasy. It didn’t affect me at all since I could just change my waxing flow by using my other hand.

So if you’re left handed and interested in becoming an Esthetician or Cosmetologist, you should do it! You might just have an additional advantage because of your uniqueness.
