Real Change: Shae's story

Rescued from a reckless lifestyle
At just 11 years old Shae started doing dope. “I was running with the wrong crowd,” says Shae. Shae describes her drug induced life as chaotic and reckless. Her mother and sister describe her as angry, mean…a monster.

Union Gospel Mission provides more than 200,000 meals a year to the homeless and people in need in Portland. In addition to meals, the mission provides food boxes, a day room with coffee and snacks, clothing, hygiene items, referral services and emergency cold weather shelter to the homeless.
Union Gospel Mission is also the home to the LifeChange for Men and the LifeChange for Women and Their Children program, a Christ-centered recovery community. Its purpose is to transform lives and break people free from addiction and destructive life patterns.
