Duke Ellington tells Michael Parkinson about his Kabul concert

On September 19, 1963, legendary composer and pianist Duke Ellington played in an extraordinary concert in Kabul, Afghanistan.

For thousand people gathered to hear what to them was the new and strange sound of jazz.

On February 24, 1973 Ellington told the BBC's Michael Parkinson that it was one of the most memorable performances of his long career. He also played Satin Doll with the Harry Stoneham Five.
