Hey kids! Its Uncle Ben Eller, here with a brand new installment of Weekend Wankshop. On lesson 246, i'm going to be showing you all a sweet Frank Zappa-inspired lick i made up that's going to help you master economy picking today!!! Economy picking is tricky to practice due to the fact that a lot of the Yngwie Malmsteen, Eric Johnson, or Tosin Abasi licks that use it tend to be arrhythmic clusters of odd-number groupings like 5's; But, with the simple trick i'm going to show you in the video, you can link odd-number sets of notes together to make even-numbered groovy phrases that are easy to play FAST!
In this lesson, we will talk about some of the economy picking concepts used by masters like EJ, learn this cool minor pentatonic lick that i made up to demonstrate my rhythmic "fix", then i'm going to break down my "pick parking" technique that i use to make economy lines feel smooth and silky.
