Centrine is a red case, one of the most severe cases we've handled in our life as RUS. The mossy foot elephantiasis is non fillarial, meaning it cannot be treated like other types of elephantiasis. But RUS has always made provision for baking soda, Vaseline, vicks and the anti fungal cream available to her, and they really help. Each time she stops using them, she gets worse and jiggers attack again. Today we went back there to arrest the jigger situation and assist her with her jigger afflicted children get back on course to recovery.
Centrine is one case we shall be required to help perpetually. Our labors have borne fruit in that the cauliflower thing stopped spreading the moment we started treating her. A wonderful lady called Leigh Entenza brought a pair of shoes that fit her. Unfortunately it was only one pair and it got worn out. Now she uses slippers and socks, and due to the swelling, most of her soles are always hanging outside the little slippers, stepping on the ground in all sides.
Centrine goes through a lot of pain. She needs more help than we're able to offer right now. Please stand with us and help us reach out to her with the needed follow up efforts, with all the anti fungals and other things required for her treatment. It is rather hard to make this admission, but the truth is that if we cannot help her, no one else seems interested in her case. She needs our help, and we as RUS will always be there for her.

MEDICAL CONDITION: The condition depicted is known as "Tungiasis". It is an infestation of the skin by a burrowing flea. These fleas tend to infest those who have inadequate living conditions and sanitation. The flea lives both outside around warm-blooded mammals and inside poorly constructed homes. It inhabits dust on floors, cracks in walls and bedding. Shoes protect to some degree but are often not affordable or adequate.
