How to Resize a Ring Using a Ring Stretcher/Reducer

When you make handmade jewellery you are bound to be asked to resize a ring, and the process of enlarging or reducing the size of a plain ring band is simple when using a ring stretcher/reducer tool. Learn how to use the Ring Stretcher Reducer Pro to resize a ring in this video.

There are several ways to increase or decrease the size of a ring, but the method you choose depends on the design of the ring itself as well as the size of the alteration. Here's how to enlarge a ring using a jeweller's ring stretcher tool, which is suitable for small alterations (up to 1 size)...
- For best use, fix the tool to the table and use an annealed ring
- Place the ring on the ring stretcher, then pull the lever
- Turn the ring over, and repeat the process to even out the profile

Want to make a ring smaller instead? Here's how to make a ring tighter using a jeweller's ring reducer tool, which again is suitable for small alterations (up to 1 size)...
- For best use, fix the tool to the table and use an annealed ring
- Place the ring into a hole on the reducer which allows the top edge of the ring to sit a bit proud
- Revolve the plate until the ring is underneath the flat plate
- Pull the lever of the tool until you start to feel some resistance
- Turn the ring over, and repeat the process to even out the profile
