Recycle Plastic Milk Jugs - for Vacuum Forming (With Mayku Formbox Hack)

This hack shows how I used HDPE reclaimed from Milk Jugs / Water Bottles, rather than using virgin plastic. Another benefit is that HDPE is food safe, and almost free!

It all started when Mayku gave me a Formbox (https://amzn.to/3cXVSLG) to play about with (#ad - freebie), and I was making a cup of tea, and suddenly considered the HDPE milk jug! After some quick testing, I realised two things:

1. I needed a head-gun (a hairdryer will work also) to stretch the plastic form to something close to a flat sheet.
2. The HDPE plastic melts very very slowly, as temperature of the Mayku Formbox was a bit lower than ideal. I suspected this might be due to entrained air (draughts) cooling the plastic as fast as it was being heated...

...So I made a shroud out of some metal strip, and placed this around it to keep the heat in. Not for the feint-hearted, but a hack nonetheless!

I then realised an even easier source of HDPE (and thicker too!) was the 5ltr water containers you get a gas stations for De-Ionised Water (safe for food), and Anti-Freeze (not safe for food). I used this to vac form some good quality chocolate moulds for my son!
